2017

In 2017, I spent four months at the Jackie Robinson Senior Center in Harlem, where I interviewed seniors about their lives, memories, and experiences in the neighborhood. I reenacted the stories they shared with me, using their narratives as the foundation for my performance. For the video, I incorporated archival film footage as a backdrop, reimagining details and adding fictional elements drawn from their recollections. The montage blends this historical footage with current-day scenes from the senior center, contrasting their vibrant memories with the present reality they live in—one that, in many ways, seems less lavish than what they had envisioned for their senior years. This project reflects the gap between past expectations and present circumstances, capturing both the richness of their stories and the challenges of their current lives.
