The Rule is Love #1 (Orange)
"The Rule is Love" is a performance series that began in 2017, exploring what drives people to act when witnessing someone in a vulnerable circumstance. Each performance is guided by a set of rules I create for myself and the participants, aiming to uncover the conditions that compel an audience to help a stranger. Is the motivating factor love? These performances invite everyone to become both observers and participants, where no action is passive.
For the performance at The 8th Floor, titled "Orange," I wore an orange jumpsuit symbolizing incarcerated individuals, with my hands tied and blindfolded, surrounded by over 1,000 tacks laid out on paper. My rule was to keep moving; the audience's rule was to prevent me from stepping on the tacks. Through this durational piece, the audience and I engaged in a shared investigation of vulnerability, action, and connection.
