North Bronx Collective
On July 4th, 2020, we held a north Bronx historical tour in response to the noose found in Van Cortlandt Park. That summer many nooses were being found across the country in public spaces and parks with little accountability from law enforcement officials in investigating them. We invited speakers from local groups looking at landlord harassment to attract doctors and medical students from Montifiore, The legacy of high mortality rates for Black mothers during pregnancy, The Panther 22 court case in the late 1960's and how it affected Clinton High students ending with a history of African people enslaved in Van Cortlandt park. The march concluded with a picnic and pinata created by local Bronx artist with familieis on the 4th of July.
