Like a Slow Walk With Trees- exhibition and works
A template for creating personalized land acknowledgments was included in the exhibition, designed to guide individuals toward deeper, more intentional engagement with the histories and communities tied to where they live and/or work. This template emphasizes the importance of genuine research and care, encouraging users to move beyond surface-level statements by investigating the complex histories of Indigenous peoples, African Americans forced into slavery, and exploited poor workers who have shaped, and been shaped by, the land.
The inclusion of the land and labor acknowledgments, alongside a reference sheet of research, is meant to foster a dialogue and provide tools for viewers to continue engaging beyond the gallery. The connections to the pandemic-era ask for broader societal reckoning many of us experienced during that time.
