This work came about through the audition for William Pope L.’s Miss Black Factory in 2005. In linguistics, code-switching is switching between two or more languages, or language varieties, in the context of a single conversation. There have been times when I changed the way I spoke and behaved in order to fit in, thus throwing into flux any preconceived perceptions of who I should be based on how I look.
