Revealing Myth: Seoksu Market
2009
"Having lived in Korea 13 years ago, this is a unique opportunity to come back as an artist. This experience has allowed me to take a closer look at Korea and how it is changing. I see that I am inevitably a part of the redevelopment taking place in Seoksu Market. It is unmistakable that my presence as an artist, invited to do a piece on activism, community and art, is fated to perhaps adversely affect this place. Past incidents in New York's Soho and now in Brooklyn, testify to the foreshadowing of artists preparing an area for real estate speculation. The interventions making up my project, are my negotiations to incorporate the values and character of the local within my presence as an artist. The nature of my work is not permanent and the documentation is testimony to the marks left behind."
