PERFORMANCE > RICE CAKE: STRUCTURE

For this performance, I asked a local shop owner to show me how to make Dok (rice cake). Neither of us spoke the others language. We relied on hand gestures and feeling to express the ourselves. The work took place in the market at her shop. Some people joined us. It was intimate and public and I felt myself being immersed into a relationship with the shop owner and the market as well. Our actions were tradition. I met most of the women shop owners and I listened to them discuss community issues over the making of a staple food.
